Ever since we posted that video a while back titled [cool video inside] Sharks and Paddleboards…Nom! Nom! We’ve been getting a ton of people submitting their stories of run ins with sharks but not much in the way of pictures. This week an e-mail from Holland’s very own Jeroen Van Gessel (a heck of a waterman by the way) had some great shots of a run in with some sharks on his stand up paddleboard.

Jeroen Van Gessel – Holland SUP

Last month I was on holiday at Cornwall-UK. Sitting on my SUP waiting for a set of waves suddenly a big fin a 3-5 surfaced in front of me. I’ve always been fascinated with sharks this time I had to check it out. My first in the (wild) meet up with a Shark on my SUP, cool!

They are awesome, beautiful creatures, and it was wonderfull to see them alive. This one is a Baskinshark, they don’t eat us, but still, a fish of that size you treat with respect!

I told my girlfriend on the beach about my meet-up but in the beginning she didnt believe me. A few days later we went back (with a watercamera!) to the same spot and yup, there he was again, with a smaller one too!

Going closer and closer it seemed to be okay with the smaller shark so made a few pics as it came towards my board and although the big shark was a bit “shy” I got a great shot of it from my stand up paddle board. I had that day some great waves, each 10 times better as the break at home but this meet up with those two fella’s were way more special!
