Australia was all over the podium in Peru at the ISA World Championships, but Sean Poynter stole the spotlight by returning to Peru after a 3rd place finish in 2012.

With one goal in mind and representing the United States, Sean led the 3 member team to a Gold Medal Finish. He was SUP Surfing really well all week and it was only fitting that he won the last heat with a 17.83 score out of a possible 20.

Sean sent a brief recap after the event and in his own words you can hear his excitement:

“So yea super psyched to win gold here in Peru.

I was here last year and finished with a Bronze, and obviously then I really wanted the Gold. So to come back this year and take it is an unreal feeling. Specially representing USA. We were a team of 3 and we definitely wanted to put forth our best foot. So to get on the board with a Gold is really cool. It’s a special feeling representing your country, and no better one than USA! I’m biased.

The event here was awesome. Like I was saying about representing USA, which is very special, it’s just great to watch everyone support their country and bring their best out. It makes for a really fun time, rooting for each other and heckling each other.

My board was feeling really good, the 7’7”, it just seemed to get better by the heat. Not to mention my paddle the 475 Enduro which was just so light, making my paddle transitions that much easier.

So happy to be here and just want to thank ISA for putting on such an amazing event, to Surfing America for getting us down here, and FCS for the support, specifically Tyler Callaway. And last but not least Starboard. You guys are it! Let’s keep gettin it!! Stoked to be representing!!”

Congratulations Sean, Starboard, Your Team and the United States are proud of you!!
