Sean Poynter Wins 1st Place in Tahiti and Stands 1st Place Overall in the World!

Sitting in a solid third position overall on the Stand Up World Tour, Starboard’s Sean Poynter (US), went into Tahiti focused and poised for a great event. He not only managed to win 1st place at Sapinus Pro, but came out in solo 1st place overall in the world! The competition was fierce and Sean managed to surf his Starboard 7’7” SURF PRO Brushed Carbon to outscore second place finisher Poenaiki Raioha, (Tahiti), Starboard’s Justin Holland, (Australia) in third place, and Robin Johnston, (Hawaii) who came in fourth. According to the the judges and the spectators on hand, “Sean put on an impressive backhand attack at Sapinus, linking radical snaps and tail drift turns into roundhouse cutbacks worthy of a Champion here on the Stand Up World Tour, winning every heat on his way to the Finals.”
Congratulations Sean and Justin!
We are looking for more great performances, from all Starboard riders, in the second half of the World Tour, which kicks off in October, in Brazil, but for now this is how Sean wrapped up his time in Tahiti:
“Just want to thank the local Tahitian community for having us over there on the beautiful island had an unreal time with everyone. I’m really happy to get my first win on tour, especially in Tahiti, that’s a special one. The win has got me feeling really good going into the second half of the year. Feel like I’ve got some momentum going for me and I’m just going to make sure to keep that alive during the summer break with a lot of practice to prepare myself for the second half, starting there in Brazil. I can’t wait.”
“Thanks to Starboard and FCS for all your support, and to all my support outside, thank you!” ~Sean
