Scott McKercher Winner at Yallingup in Australia
Scott McKercher was the surprise Winner at the opening event of West Australian State rounds, in Blustery good size surf at Yallingup.
Riding the 8’0 pro and then the 8’5 (Both Brushed Carbon) later in the event when the winds really started to pick up, Scott kept advancing through heats much to his own amazement.
Day two was a real workout with 25 knot cross shore winds making it extremely difficult to select good scoring waves. Managing a few connecting waves Scott was hoping just not to come last in the four man final. Relieved when Phil Berry was called into 4th, eyebrow raised when Jake Jackovich, was called into third, and jaw dropped open when Rick Jackovich was announced 2nd (By less than a point)
Simultaneously the Margaret River Wave Sailing event was being held 50 km’s down the coast, which McKercher also managed to take out in between his SUP heats.
Sup participation at these joint longboard events is growing rapidly with both kodes working together harmoniously, which was refreshing to see. Watch this space for some more exciting news to come out of West Australia very soon.
